Phil, After discussing your guys trip with my dad he suggested a book written by the boat designer Ted Brewer. In the book Ted shares his opinion on LWL to weight ratios and other ratios to help people buy a sailboat best suited for coastal, open water, etc. I would suggest it if you guys havent read a book that discussed this.
